Serving The American Rinks (STAR) is a membership organization for rink owners, operators, and vendors. STAR was formed in 2000 by a joint venture between U.S. Figure Skating and USA Hockey to help service the industry needs of facilities in the United States. The rinks in the U.S. are the backbone of their membership. Recognizing that one does not succeed without the other, both National Governing Bodies continue to support STAR and the rink industry.
STAR offers three membership categories for the rink industry. Facility, Individual, and Vendor membership options are available through STAR. Thousands of members benefit from the largest membership organization in the U.S. STAR has formed alliances with state rink management associations and international ice sports associations. Working together with these associations strengthens the base of resources for members.
STAR continues to be the industry leader in facility and operational education in the U.S. STAR formed a partnership with the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) to bring proven industry education and practices to facilities and operators around the country. Each year STAR offers Regional Training Programs located throughout the U.S. to deliver training and education for individuals working on the Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Designation. The National Hockey League (NHL) recognizes this designation. STAR offers introductory Ice Resurfacer training through the Safe Ice Resurfacer Operation (SIRO) course. This one-day program is offered around the country as well. Annually, STAR produces the North American Rink Conference & Expo (NARCE). NARCE offers the CIT classes as well as expanded management courses. NARCE educational courses are combined with the industry's largest trade show where every major vendor in the rink industry convenes to display their new and existing products. NARCE combines training, vendors and networking opportunities like no other event in the U.S. It truly is the premier event for attendees and vendors of the rink industry.
STAR also produces RINK Magazine. It is the official publication of STAR and is the premier publication for the rink industry. All STAR facilities, individuals, and vendors receive RINK Magazine. STAR manages a dedicated RINK edit board who all work in the industry in various locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. STAR staff members and the RINK edit board provide a dynamic perspective of the industry and the magazine is a testament to the diverse membership and facility locations throughout the country. STAR partners with Touchpoint Sports for editorial review and final publication of the magazine.
