USA Hockey Rule Changes for 2013/14 - 2016/17 Playing Seasons
USA Hockey has updated the "Official USA Hockey Ice Markings" for the upcoming 2013-14 season. Rink owners and operators can take comfort in the fact that these markings will remain in place through the 2016/2017 season as the USA Hockey Rules Committee has changed the rule change years. Previously rule change proposals were voted in every every 2 years. The new change only allows rule changes every 4 years. The changes are effective September 1, 2013.
Changes to the Ice Markings:
- The "HASH MARKS" are spaced at four feet (4'). Previously the hash marks were spaced at three feet (3'). The change places the hash marks at a width that matches the "PLAYER RESTRAINT LINES".
- The five inch (5") lines that extend into the light blue area of the "GOAL CREASE" have been removed.

Serving The American Rinks (STAR) is a non-profit membership association for facilities, individuals and vendors in the ice rink industry. STAR provides education and resources to help increase operational efficiencies, safety procedures and the sustainability of ice facilities in the United States.
